Our Mission
Our mission is to empower individuals and teams through adventure experiences.

From Easy to Epic
About Us
Nomads Outdoor Adventure was built in 2014 and operated by the crew and Nomads for five years. In July 2019 Nomads partnered with Empower Adventures, a leading company in outdoor adventure programming, to bring their adventure to the next level. This incredible five-part course spread over 9 acres combined with the extensive experience of the team at Empower resulted in the creation of the Empower Adventure Park at Nomads. Like most adventure parks, Nomads Outdoor started off as a place to gear up and play on a self-guided system, exploring nature, and one’s self. With the addition of Empower, the experience evolves to include more support from experienced guides on the ground and on the course. We’ve used our knowledge of zip line canopy tour operations to reinvent the guest experience at an aerial adventure park.
Our Team

Joe DeRing
Joe is a true American hero. Having served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, Joe returned from service seeking to use his leadership skills in a way that would allow him to contribute to society.
Partnering with advisors Dev Pathik and Jason Clement, Joe developed Empower Leadership Sports in Middletown, Connecticut. Later, the team created Empower Adventures in Tampa Bay. The center and Joe’s incredible personal journey from battlefield to inspirational adventure operator has now been featured on CNN, FOX, and numerous other media outlets across the U.S.

Andy Scott
Andy has lived the life of adventure since he could walk. He was brought up in the outdoors of wild and wonderful West Virginia and spent his youth torn between playing sports and spending time outdoors hiking, backpacking, and snowboarding. Andy felt driven to give back and help others, so he went to military college for 4 years before serving as an officer in the US Army for 5 more years. During this time, Andy discovered rock climbing, mountaineering, and a passion for teaching others about his love for adventure and getting outside.
Andy joined Empower Adventures in August of 2021 after moving to Connecticut with his wife, Hannah, and dog, Freya. Andy enjoyed the mission and culture of the aerial adventure park, and took over as the Operations Manager for the course in March of 2022.

Many of these groups and teams return to Empower year after year for adventure programming.

Sara Stirling
Sara graduated from the University of Florida in 2009 and spent nearly a decade in marketing working on brands like Monster Jam, Disney On Ice, and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Sara joined Empower Adventures in 2018 while looking for an opportunity that aligned with her deeply rooted passions for adventuring and good leadership. It didn’t take long before she was hitting the road on her own adventures, steering the marketing ship, aiming to grow Empower Adventures’ multiple locations and helping people find their more adventurous side.
Job Opportunities
If you love empowering and encouraging people and you have strong leadership skills, then you will love working at the Empower Adventures Park at Nomads treetop course in South Windsor, Connecticut. You will join a close-knit team that loves working with diverse groups of people. The best part about the job: you will have a lot of fun, and you will gain valuable experience. At Empower Adventures, we are experts in leadership training, and we will impart that knowledge on you. Let’s take a look at some of our beliefs, so you can see if you think of yourself as a good fit.
Empower Adventures Beliefs
We believe in empowering and strengthening people through experiential learning. We ask groups and individuals to step outside of their comfort zones for a brief moment in time, and this often results in substantial changes. People leave Empower Adventures feeling charged with a can-do attitude and brimming with confidence. If you love instilling confidence and belief in people, then you share our most important belief.
Diversity and Uniqueness Matters
Our zip line course doesn’t care who you are. It takes you from one tower to the next, regardless of what you look like or what you believe in. Our employees are the same. We see the inner leader in everyone, and we cultivate those leaderships and individuality in each of our guests. This can be as simple as encouraging them or as complex as designing team building exercises based on their group’s needs. At the end of the day, however, we believe that all people bring unique experiences to the table that are worth hearing.
Joy Bonds People Together
Many of our clients come from a corporate setting, and they expect Empower Adventures to turn their office of individuals into a cohesive group. Part of the reason we do this so successfully is because we bring joy to our clients. When they have fun and lower their guards, they begin to form relationships that will encourage efficiency and productivity. We are the ones who cultivate that fun atmosphere. If you believe in spreading joy at your job, then you might be right for Empower Adventures.
